So I started this blog thing...

Test test. Is this editor working? Great. Deep breath.

Hello, world!

Sorry. I needed to do that. It's a programming ritual, and with every new language you learn, you begin with the same greeting. Blogging, to me, feels very similar.

The idea that I should start some kind of blog came to me last year, in the middle of the Delta surge. I had absolutely nothing to do at home, a growing interest in electrical engineering and programming, some skill with writing and teaching, and a lot of spare time. One of my teachers (thanks Ms. Johnson) suggested to me that I start some kind of blog to write about what I had been learning and creating at home.

I mulled the idea over and tossed it around in my head for a few months, trying to find the best blogging platforms and the lowest possible cost for hosting services. I knew I had to document something; it was the only way to make my (mostly) impractical gadgets and programs somewhat practical: by writing, I could keep all my thoughts and ideas forever in the form of a blog. Eventually, I settled on using Hashnode, a free, easy-to-use, and customizable place for makers to share their creations, and now here I am, writing my first blog post.

I hope to use this website as some kind of personal brain dump on topics that I'm passionate about. I might write about pieces of code that I wrote or that I found interesting. Stuff I built at home. Mistakes I made. Something I learned. Anything, really, that lights a spark in my brain or is something that I want to remember in the future.

It's not just for me, though; I hope to share what I have with others as well. I don't know if I'll post once a day or once a month, if I'll have ten readers or a thousand, or whether this blog will exist few short months or be a multi-year commitment. What I do know is that I want other people to enjoy what I write. I also know, unfortunately, that I'm new to this writing thing. I'm still trying to figure everything out, but it's all part of the learning process. For now, I thank you that you're reading my blog and that you're coming along for the ride. It'll be a blast.
